With a little extra effort you have SPECTACULAR!”
Tips:
- When using multiple threads on your 3D Threader® you must reduce the upper tension significantly in order to sew with the thickness of multiple threads. This will allow you to sew without breaking. I always use a size 5 (or 21) needle. Many who have bought the 3D Threader have been able to use their size 4 (or 19) needle and it accommodates the thickness of the threads.
- Please go to www.gammill.com, and review section 8.6 “Timing the Sewing Hook” of the Gammill Plus service manual to accommodate the size 5 needle and multiple threads You may or may not have to re-time your machine. Often people have told me they were able to put the 3D Threader on and it worked fine with just tension adjustments.
- To improve the appearance of signature blocks, increase your stitch length to 12.5 spi. and slow down the speed of the machine to half.
- Swipe the end of the multiple threads with the glue stick to help guide them thread through the needle easier.
- Try experimenting with different stitch lengths and thread colors.
- Use the “Pick or Knot” tool to pull the multiple threads and create loops, and fuzzies—see instructions below.

Embroidery look, loopies, fuzzies and couching. |
To Create the Loopies:
Dip the needle down and bring up the bobbin thread. Take 3-4 securing stitches. Use the smooth end of the Pick or Knot tool to slide under the presser foot and scoop the multiple threads out as long as you require your loop to be. Hold the top thread loop while take an additional 3-4 securing stitches. Repeat this process until you have created the density of looping and covered the area you desire.
To Create the Fuzzies:
Dip the needle down and bring up the bobbin thread. Take 3-4 securing stitches. Use the smooth end of the Pick or Knot tool to slide under the pressure foot and scoop the multiple threads out making them as long as you like. Hold the top threads and make 3-4 additional securing stitches. Repeat this process until you have the density of thread and have covered the are you desire. Finish by taking 3-4 securing stitches and then trim the “tail” you have made to the length of Fuzzies you want them to be.
To Couch your thread:
Dip the needle down and bring up the bobbin thread. Take 3-4 securing stitches. Use the smooth end of the Pick or Knot tool to slide under the pressure foot and scoop the multiple threads out making them as long as you’d like. Repeat this process until you have a tail that’s as long and as dense as you want. Make 3-4 securing stitches before continuing. Keep your needle atop the pattern you wish to couch (whether you drew out the design or quilted it with a single thread.) Take a stitch and swing the tail you created to the right, take a stitch and swing the tail to the left. Repeat until you have near the end of the tail, at which you can make 3-4 more securing stitches and add more length to your tail to continue or you can go back and forth over the end of the tail and secure it with 3-4 stitches and trim it.
